About Our Ingredients

Fruit? For Dogs?

Sure! But it isn't just fruit, it is organically grown fruit (and vegetables) -- and dogs LOVE IT! We have tried to come up with inspired ingredient combinations to make all dogs wag tails with excitement and pure joy. Dogs love fruits and veggies and love how we bake them all together with just the right seasonings to make a yummy treat.

Organic?

Yeah... we're all about organic ingredients. Everything we use is organic, even the spices. Of course, ingredients like baking soda don't have organic options. Using organic ingredients means that we support agricultural practices that nurture and support the soil and environment. It also means that our great baked treats are free from pesticides and other dangerous chemicals. All goodness, all the time. Better for our planet, better for our dogs.

Aren't Dogs Meat Eaters?

Technically, dogs are omnivores -- they will eat anything. Anyone who has raised a puppy knows this is true (and kinda gross sometimes)! (For loads of information on living a more compassionate life, visit www.vegforlife.com) Ultimately, as proud dog guardians, charged with loving and protecting our canine companions, we all make the decisions about what they will eat. Our baked goods are treats, not dog food. They are intended to be special rewards for being a great dog. If you want to feed your dog a meat-based diet, you can still reward her with our yummy meat-free treats!

I've Read that Nutmeg is Poisonous for Dogs!

We are assured by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (www.aspca.org) that Nutmeg, which can be toxic to all animals (including dogs and humans), is not a source of concern in small amounts.  Higher, or concentrated amounts can be toxic to all animals. There is a tremendous amount of information circulating on the web and among organizations.  We felt it was important to select an authority to guide our product decisions – and that authority is the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.  When we decided to add Nutmeg to our Pumpkin Pie Muffins, we called them again, just to make sure there hasn't been a change… and the information on Nutmeg remains the same: it is fine in small quantities. Because you need to make decisions for your canine's health and safety: a box of our Pumpkin Pie Muffins contains 0.17 teaspoons (that’s 1/6th of a teaspoon) of nutmeg.

How Do I Store Your Treats After I Receive Them?

These are fresh baked goodies made to order and shipped the same day they are made.  Think of these artisanal treats like buying a loaf of bread from the bakery – they are intended to be eaten within a few days.  You can extend that time by placing them in a refrigerator.  The treats freeze wonderfully for longer storage (no more than 6 months).  And, for those who live in a hot and humid environment, it is best to always keep the fresh treats in the fridge (or freezer) until they are eaten.

Our products sold through retail channels will last months on the shelf because they do not contain fruit ingredients.

Can I Freeze These Cookies and Muffins?

Yes! Freezing these treats is a great way to stock up on them to make sure a dog always has a supply ready for eating. The only word of caution is to make sure you only defrost what you need… they do not have more than a few days shelf life after defrosting.

About Shipping

Do You Ship Internationally?

Yes, we do! There is information about shipping to Canada in a separate topic below. For other countries, we will need to contact you after your order is placed to verify and approve shipping charges!

What Does Shipping Cost?

When you look at your shopping cart, you have the option of entering your zip code to estimate your shipping costs. You can compare different shipping options to see if the costs are less using a particular method.

Do You Add "Handling" Charges to Shipping?

No! We don't add handling or other charges to the amount charged for shipping! You pay only for the cost of shipping your gifts to the recipient. We even reduce your shipping charges for you automatically whenever we can! When shipping via USPS Priority Mail, we will use a Flat Rate shipping box so most gifts will ship for $9.30 to anywhere in 2-3 days!

Why Are My Shipping Costs Less Than the Estimate?

Shipping costs are frequently less than the estimate. Our promise to you is that we will always charge you the lowest amount for the shipping method you have selected. For example, the shipping estimator may not consider the use of USPS Flat Rate shipping boxes, which can hold multiple items and have maximum prices of $9.30 and $12.50 to anywhere in the USA. We think lowering your shipping costs is a good thing! The total reduced amount charged to your credit card will be emailed to you for your records so that you know the actual amount for your order.

When Will Shipping Charges Be Less on My Order?

There is no simple answer to this question. Usually, shipping charges can only be reduced if you've selected USPS as your shipping method and you've ordered more than one item. We can place these items in a USPS Flat Rate shipping box to reduce the overall shipping charges. Your final invoice, marked "paid" will show the actual amount charged to your credit card so you will know if we were able to reduce your shipping charges.

When Does My Order Ship?

Your order ships after the goodies have been baked! We try to get every order baked and shipped within 24 hours! We ship orders Monday through Friday, and, occasionally (when needed) on Saturdays. Tracking information, if available, will be sent to you so that you know where your gift is and when it arrives. Orders placed after 12 noon (EST) will usually ship the next day. Because you receive emails about your shipped order, you will always know when it shipped. Feel free to contact us if you have any concerns about your order!

Shipping to Canada

Do You Ship Your Goodies to Canada?

Yes we do! Our webstore does not correctly determine the shipping costs to Canada, though, so we need to contact you via email after your order to approve the charges. Once we have your approval, we will ship your order.

How Long Does Delivery to Canada Take?

The USPS gives estimates for shipping to Canada. Please remember that, because it is an international shipment, it must clear customs in Canada, and that may cause delays. For USPS Priority Mail, delivery should take 6 to 10 days. USPS First Class mail will take longer, and there are no delivery estimates given.

Why Doesn't The Shipping Charge Show Up Correctly During Checkout?

How Much Does Shipping to Canada Cost?

There are several options for shipping to Canada, and each of them have different costs. When we contact you to confirm the shipping charges, we will give you a price for each of the available options.

For a cookie subscription, each box of cookies will ship to Canada via USPS First Class mail for $5 for each box. First Class mail does not have tracking information available, however. If you want, you may also select USPS Priority Mail for $17 per month. Priority Mail offers faster delivery service and tracking information.

For others items, most of them can ship to Canada via USPS First Class for $9.50, or via USPS Priority Mail for a maximum of $24.

When we receive your order, we will contact you via email with an accurate shipping amount and various shipping options. YOU MUST APPROVE (via email) the shipping amount before we ship your order! We are sorry for the extra step, but it is the only way we can ship to Canada right now.


Packaging Materials

Why Do You Use Styrofoam Peanuts? They Aren't Earth-Friendly!

We try with everything we do to be responsible members of the community. We NEVER buy packaging materials like Styrofoam peanuts or bubble wrap! We do, however, re-use materials that we receive. So, if an employee gets a box full of styrofoam peanuts, we save them and use them to package our gifts! So, we are simply re-using existing packaging materials. We try to be as earth-friendly as we can... and re-using packaging materials makes the most sense!

What is Ghost Poop?

We don't know where the idea came from, but we call styrofoam peanuts "ghost poop" -- just seems fitting!

 

Shop Now, Ship Later?

What is "Shop Now, Ship Later"?

We know there are a lot of people who like to be prepared. These people don't like to wait until the last minute to send gifts to the dogs of friends and family. We created our "Shop Now, Ship Later" process to help people shop when it is convenient -- while ensuring the gift is shipped when they want! The process is simple: you shop when it is convenient for YOU and then tell us when you want your gift to be shipped! You just need to select the option "This will be shipped to a different address" during checkout, and then leave a note telling us when to ship the item.

How does the "Shop Now, Ship Later" work?

We created our "Shop Now, Ship Later" process to help you plan ahead, or get your shopping done early. All you need to do is:

  1. Fill your shopping cart with the gift goodies for a dog in the family of a friend or relative, and
  2. Select the option "This will be shipped to a different address" during the checkout process, and
  3. Put your shipping directions (especially the date to ship) in the MESSAGE box during checkout.

We will bake, package and ship your order on the day you've selected! Of course, your credit card will not be charged until your order is ready to ship. You will receive a confirmation email and tracking information (if available) on the day your gift ships so you know we have taken care of your special gift!

Why do I have to select "This will be shipped to a different address"?

Even if your gift is being shipped to your own address, you still need to select the option "This will be shipped to a different address". This is the only way the shopping cart will let you place a message to us with the date you want the item shipped. It is a limitation of our shopping system and we apologize to those who have to enter their own address twice. However, from past experience, we know 99% of orders using the "Ship Now, Ship Later" option are gifts to dogs in the families of friends or relatives.

What date do I put? The Ship Date or the Date I want the gift to arrive?

You need to put the date you WANT THE ITEM TO BE SHIPPED! We cannot control the shipper's delivery schedule, we can only make sure the shipper gets it on the day you select as the ship date. Depending on the method you select for shipping, you will need to leave enough time for the package to transit to the destination. Obviously, around the holidays, you may want to allow for some extra time. We will ship your gift on the day you tell us to (but may ship it a day early during busy holidays).

Do NOT put the date you want the gift to be delivered! We cannot guarantee a delivery date: we can only guarantee a shipping date. You will receive a confirmation email with tracking information (if available) on the day your gift is shipped! Feel free to contact us if you have any concerns about your order!

Payment Questions

When Does My Credit Card Get Charged?

We don't process your credit card until your order is ready to ship. When you place an order online, the information is kept pending until your order is ready to ship. We will NEVER increase the amount charged to your credit card, but we frequently decrease the amount because we are able to ship at a lower cost. You will receive an invoice via email marked "paid" when your order ships -- this invoice contains the actual amount billed to your credit card.

Our baked goodies are fantastic, but they are for dogs, not people! So we would like to make some recommendations about where to get some great food for people!
